There is no right or wrong way to engage in therapy for the first time – your clinician will always be guided by you and your preferences. During your initial consultation or therapy session, you will have a chance to speak to your therapist about your concerns, goals, and personal history, at your own pace and in a way that feels comfortable for you.

The first session tends to be longer than your follow-up sessions – usually about 60 – 75 minutes, whereas follow up sessions are 50 minutes. This session helps the therapist to gain a comprehensive understanding of your unique situation. However, you are not obliged to talk about anything you do not wish to talk about – you can take the time you need to share what you choose to share with your therapist. Your next sessions will involve evidence-based interventions, which may include talk therapy, cognitive-behavioural techniques, and other approaches designed to address your specific needs. All therapy is collaborative and adapted to your personal needs and pace.

The first session usually lasts approximately 60 – 75 minutes, and each session after this usually lasts around 50 minutes. The overall duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and the complexity of the issues being addressed. Some clients may achieve their goals within a few sessions, while others may require or choose to engage in longer-term therapy. The frequency of sessions is usually determined collaboratively between you and your therapist to ensure that your needs are met – we generally recommend fortnightly sessions, however this is also up to you.

Yes – absolutely. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of psychology, and we take it very seriously. Your privacy is of utmost importance, and all discussions between you and your therapist are strictly confidential, adhering to professional ethical standards and Australian laws. The only time this is not true is if your life or someone else’s life is in danger. More information about confidentiality is provided in our intake forms and directly by your therapist in your initial appointment. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions as needed.

Yes, we understand the importance of flexibility and accessibility. Reflective Psychology provides telehealth services, allowing you to receive therapy sessions online via Zoom. Please let us know if you would like your sessions to take place via telehealth.

Yes, of course, anytime. The relationship that you and your therapist develop is called the “therapeutic rapport”. It is an important part of your treatment, and it is essential that you feel that you and your therapist are a good fit! No therapist can be everything to everyone; if you decide you would like to try someone new, we have plenty of options. We also partner with our sister service, Harbour Therapy Clinic, and can recommend a practitioner from that practice as well.

To schedule an appointment, you can reach out to us here or email our clinic at admin@reflectivepsych.com.au. Our friendly and experienced administrative team will assist you by answering any questions you might have, and in finding a suitable appointment time with one of our qualified practitioners.
