Meet Clinical Director Dr Basia Radlinska

Dr Basia Radlinska

Clinical Director | Clinical Psychologist & Psychology Board Approved Clinical Supervisor

I am the Clinical Director at Reflective Psychology, and our sister service, Harbour Therapy Clinic. My heritage is Polish, and whilst I was born and spent some of my childhood in Australia, I moved around a lot through my teenage years and early 20’s, living in France, Poland, Switzerland and Canada. I then lived in Sydney for many years, where I met and fell in love with my now husband, who originally grew up in Sawtell. We moved back to the Coffs Coast about eight years ago, with our two enormous and very spoiled dogs.

Education

  • Current – Master of Business Administration (MBA), University of Sydney
  • Master of Clinical Psychology, Macquarie University
  • PhD Neuroscience, McGill University
  • Bachelor of Psychology with Honours, UNSW Australia
  • Psychology-Board Approved Clinical Supervisor

These days, most of my work is clinical supervision and organisational consulting. I provide clinical supervision for clinical psychologists and psychologists at all levels, as well as other mental health care professionals. I also work closely with a number of community mental health, not-for-profit and private mental health organisations to provide support and training to staff, or to streamline processes and facilitate improved clinical outcomes, whilst remaining trauma-informed for clients and staff alike.

I also do quite a bit of teaching; I work as a lecturer in clinical psychology and psychology at a number of universities, in the Master of Clinical Psychology and Master of Professional Psychology. I love this work and have been teaching and working for universities for 20 years now – even winning a number of teaching awards.

In my clinical practice, I most enjoy working with young people, emerging adulthood and families. I also really enjoy supporting healthcare workers for their own therapy – it’s very difficult in a small town for healthcare workers to seek their own mental health support!

Therapeutic Style

I would describe my therapeutic style as client-centred, authentic and down to earth. My goal is to meet my clients and supervisees where they are at, and focus on the issues that are most important to them, without pretence or expectation. I know that both therapy and supervision can be tough and very personal – so as a therapist, I am completely non-judgemental and unconditionally supportive of my clients’ and supervisees’ journeys.

Modality and Approach

My main therapeutic leanings are Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Family Constellations. In clinical supervision, I work within a Reflective Practice Framework. I am also trained in CBT, TF-CBT, CBT-E, ACT and DBT and apply these modalities and their underlying principles as relevant in the context of sessions that are adapted to the specific needs of each client or supervisee.
